Somerset Lavender

•July 12, 2010 • 13 Comments

Stunning light over a field of Lavender near Frome, Somerset. Its always nice to be rewarded with light like this after crawling out of bed at 2.30am! I’ve been struggling recently for motivation and inspiration, its amazing how one morning of good light changes everything!

Arctic Norway

•February 24, 2010 • 11 Comments

I’ve not long been back from an incredible week in Arctic Norway. Wind temperatures down to -50 and stupendously heavy snow storms didn’t spoil the party, I have to say that its nice not having frozen nostrils and not feeling like my face is going to fall off anymore! I’m so in love with Zeiss lenses after this trip. Fantastic in low light and when combined with the 5dmkii at high iso’s during the 18 hours of darkness it was the perfect combination. An incredible display of Aurora Borealis on the last night was the finishing touch and I really enjoyed every minute of the trip. Seriously cant wait to et back later in the year! Its looking very likely that I’ll be running some photographic tours out there later in the year so if anyone would like to be kept informed just let me know…

Here are a few images from the trip and I’ll try and keep up with this blog a little better and get some more posts up!

North Devon Coast

•August 28, 2009 • 8 Comments

sunset_starfish_shopMorthoe_sunset I have been heading further afield over the last few months as the sun sets too far round on the Dorset coast. The north Devon coastline is as good as anywhere in the U.K, its an absolute mission to get to and maybe thats why it seems to be relatively un-photographed compared to much of the British coastline. I’ve made many trips over the last few months and here are my two favourites so far…

Both can be viewed much larger on my site. Love to know what you think?

I have been lucky enough to have these three images put through to the final round of judging for the take a view landscape photographer of the year competition. I’m absolutely over the moon and really hoping that one makes the exhibition in London and gets published in the book! Fingers crossed!

Woolacombe Sunset.

This is a shot from last week on the North Devon coastline at Woolacombe. This place is absolutely stunning and I couldn’t recommend it enough for year round low tide sunset shots. This was a 5 minute exposure in driving rain and heavy wind, it was a real mission holding the umbrella as still as possible for the full 5 mins and keep the umbrella out of the frame when shooting so wide! I’m seriously glad the first exposure was good as I don’t think I could have done it again! Thankfully I only ended up with one rain spot to delete, quite an achievement when the rain is coming directly towards me!

It’ll be nice when the kids are older and my beautiful wife can come and hold the brollie for me! 🙂
